Brand authority as massStop chasing. Build mass.

In general relativity, mass curves the space around it, and other objects fall toward the curve rather than being pulled by a rope. Brand authority works the same way: enough accumulated proof bends a market, so buyers, search engines and AI assistants arrive already leaning toward you instead of being chased.

What does mass curving space mean?

Gravity is geometry, not a force that reaches out and grabs.

Einstein's general relativity, published in 1915, describes gravity as curvature: a massive object bends the spacetime around it, and everything nearby follows the straightest available path through that curve. Nothing has to chase anything.

The useful part for marketing is the arithmetic of accumulation. Mass is not spent when it attracts something. It stays, and the curve it creates keeps working on everything that passes.

What does it mean for marketing?

Chasing demand costs the same every month; mass compounds.

Paid acquisition is a force you apply: the day you stop spending, the pull stops. Published pages, working tools, citations and named results are mass. They keep bending the market while you sleep, which is why the fifth year of a content program costs less per lead than the first.

AI answers made this literal. Engines retrieve and quote sources they can parse and verify, so each clear answer, each consistent entity mention and each citation adds to how often you are the answer rather than a link in a list.

Force has to be reapplied every month. Mass does not.

What do we do differently?

We spend as much on assets that stay as on campaigns that run.

  • Answer-first pages that keep earning citations after the campaign ends.
  • Free tools that other sites link to and embed, so the mass is not all on our own domain.
  • One consistent entity: the same name, description and claims everywhere a machine can read them.
  • Budgets split so that acquisition pays this quarter's bills while mass lowers next year's cost per lead.

How we measure it

Rising branded search, a falling share of leads that need paid touches, citations in AI answers for buyer questions, and referring domains you did not ask for.

The SEO vs Paid Breakeven calculator puts a date on it: the month the compounding asset costs less per lead than the spend it replaces.
