CPM calculator: what do you pay per thousand impressions?

CPM, or cost per mille, is the price of one thousand ad impressions, calculated as spend divided by impressions, times 1,000. It shows how expensive your audience is to reach. Lower CPM is not always better, since cheap impressions can reach people who never convert.

How does the cpm calculator work?

Borrowed from Media buying: CPM = spend / impressions × 1,000

CPM=SpendImpressions×1000\text{CPM} = \frac{\text{Spend}}{\text{Impressions}} \times 1000

CPM is the main pricing unit for display, video and social ads. Combine it with click-through rate to estimate cost per click.

Worked example

A US brand spends $2,400 and gets 300,000 impressions, so CPM = 2,400 ÷ 300,000 × 1,000 = $8.00.

How should I read my result?

Low CPM

Broad reach at low cost. Check that the audience can actually buy.

Typical CPM

Compare with your past campaigns on the same channel.

High CPM

Narrow or competitive audiences cost more. Check whether conversion rate justifies it.
