How tax on ad invoices changes your real ad budget

The short answer

When an ad platform adds tax to your invoice, the real cost is the budget times one plus the tax rate, unless you can claim the tax back. Plan budgets before tax, report ROAS on the same basis and record tax separately for cash flow. US advertisers usually see no such tax on these platforms.

Key takeaways
  • Invoice = budget × (1 + rate).
  • Recoverable tax does not change effective cost.
  • Keep one basis in every report.

The arithmetic

A $10,000 budget with 13% tax becomes an invoice of $11,300, which is $1,300 of tax. If the tax is not recoverable, your break-even ROAS rises by 13%.
